Banyak orang berifikir bahwa membuat karya apalagi yang bermanfaat bagi orang sangatlah sulit. Namun, akan lebih sulit lagi apabila tidak dimulai sesegera mungkin. Karya harus dimulai dengan sebuah keberanian, yaitu keberanian untuk melakukan aksi. Dan perlu dicatat bahwa tidak perlu aksi yang besar untuk memperoleh sebuah karya, melainkan aksi yang bermanfaat dan berdampak bagi lingkungan sekitar. Mahasiswa pun tidak harus melakukan aksi itu sendirian, melainkan dapat berkolaborasi dengan berbagai pihak yang memiliki tujuan sama, yaitu berdampak bagi masyarakat.
KMIL x GE merupakan salah satu program kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang diadakan oleh Keluarga Mahasiswa Infrastruktur Lingkungan Institut Teknologi Bandung (KMIL ITB) dengan kolaborasi PT. GE NUSANTARA TURBINE SERVICE dimana kegiatan ini bersifat memenuhi program CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Kegiatan ini ditujukan untuk memberikan wadah bagi mahasiswa Rekayasa Infrastruktur Lingkungan ITB (RIL ITB) dan volunteer dari PT. GE NUSANTARA TURBINE SERVICE yang mau mengorbankan waktu dan ilmunya untuk berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini. Kegiatan KMIL x GE ini juga sebagai bentuk untuk menjalin hubungan baik dengan PT. GE NUSANTARA TURBINE SERVICE dalam bidang perencanaan dan konstruksi infrastruktur lingkungan. Segala tahapan pembangunan mulai dari tahap identifikasi, perencanaan (hard infrastructure dan soft infrastructure), perancangan, dan konstruksi di lapangan dilaksanakan secara langsung oleh seluruh peserta kegiatan serta pada kegiatan di lapangan. Sasaran tempat dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini ialah daerah-daerah yang mengalami kekurangan dalam bidang kelompok keahlian infrastruktur lingkungan.
KMIL x GE tersebut diikuti oleh beberapa perwakilan anggota KMIL ITB dan beberapa orang volunteer PT. GE NUSANTARA TURBINE SERVICE yang ditempatkan di lokasi kegiatan selama kurang lebih 1 hari. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di daerah Jawa Barat, tepatnya di SDN 5 dan 9 Rancaekek, Kabupaten Bandung. Konten pelaksanaan kegiatan ialah dibagi menjadi 2 jenis kegiatan yaitu konstruksi dan sosial. Kegiatan konstruksi ialah berupa pembangunan dan perawatan toilet di sekolah, instalasi tempat cuci tangan, instalasi talang air hujan, dan pengaliran air buangan. Sementara kegiatan sosial ialah dengan melakukan sosialisasi pemberdayaan masyarakat sekolah atau desa dalam perilaku hidup bersih dan saniter. Harapan dari kegiatan KMIL x GE ini, segenap mahasiswa dan volunteer yang mengikuti dapat terwadahi untuk terus menyalurkan karyanya dalam membantu masyarakat banyak yang membutuhkan khususnya di bidang air bersih dan sanitasi. Selain itu, untuk kegiatan KMIL x GE ini sendiri diharapkan dapat menjadi pelopor kegiatan-kegiatan atau aksi-aksi lainnya yang dapat dilakukan oleh seluruh mahasiswa dan volunteer di seluruh Indonesia.
